Andrew was born in Northern Ireland and was blessed to be raised by Christian parents. He realized his need for a Saviour at the young age of 7 after his older brother made a commitment to the Lord. Andrew trusted the Lord, kneeling by his bed with his dad. As a teenager, Andrew had a strong love for mission work as well as farming. It was during the Bangor Convention that he met Roy Dreaning who introduced him to The Faith Mission (in Canada). The following summer was spent with the Dreanings in Mount Forest, Ontario. During the year he farmed, and his summers were dedicated to beach missions and being a summer worker for The Faith Mission (in Canada). In his late teens, he had a desire to go to Bible College and God directed him towards the Faith Mission Bible College in Edinburgh, Scotland. After graduation, Andrew worked for The Faith Mission in the West Irish District in Northern Ireland before he immigrated to Canada in 2000.
Melissa, a Canadian raised in the Niagara Peninsula, was also blessed to be raised by Christian parents. At the age of 7, she realized her need for a Saviour and made the faith taught to her by her parents her own. As a teenager, Melissa worked at a camp where she met Brian & Julieanne Spence who introduced her to the work of The Faith Mission. For a number of summers after that initial introduction, she dedicated July and August to being a summer worker with The Faith Mission (in Canada). It was during one of those summers that she met Andrew Porter.
When Andrew immigrated from Northern Ireland, he moved to Kirkland Lake in Northern Ontario. In 2002 Andrew and Melissa were married. They now have a son, Benjamin who was born in 2004 and daughter, Keziah who was born in 2006. Together they continue to work for The Faith Mission in Northern Ontario.
